My Child Asked Me About Heaven – I Wasn’t Ready for What Came Next
“Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
– Matthew 18:3
“Mommy, what does Heaven look like?”
It was such a small question from such a little voice—but it stopped me cold. I was standing at the sink, doing something ordinary like rinsing dishes, and suddenly I felt like I was standing on holy ground. My child wasn’t asking for a fantasy. She was asking for truth. For hope. For something that would hold her heart—and mine.
I opened my mouth, ready to give her a simple answer. Clouds, angels, golden streets… but I couldn’t.
Because in that moment, I realized I didn’t just want to describe Heaven. I wanted her to long for it. I wanted her to know the same Savior who has carried me through the darkest nights. I wanted her to understand that Heaven isn’t just a place—it’s a promise. A reunion. A home.
And as I began to tell her what I believe…
That Jesus will be there.
That there’s no more pain.
That we’ll see the ones we miss.
That it will feel like the best parts of earth, multiplied by love and peace we’ve never even imagined…
…my voice cracked.
Because deep down, I wasn’t ready for what came next.
She looked at me and whispered, “Will you be there?”
And I felt that holy ache. The one every mother knows. The one that wants to give her child the world—but can only offer her God.
So I knelt down, looked her in the eyes, and said the truest thing I know:
“Yes, baby. And Jesus will be, too. And I hope you’ll always walk with Him, because Heaven is too beautiful to miss.”
It wasn’t just a question about Heaven.
It was a question about faith.
About eternity.
About legacy.
And I wasn’t ready for how much I needed the reminder, too.
For the mama who feels caught off guard by the deep questions—this is your nudge to draw near. You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need to point to the One who does. 🕊️
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” – Matthew 19:14
